second round action Thursday night. St. Thomas will meet the Northshore Lady Panthers who defeated St. Joseph's 55-40 in the other semi-final contest. The championship game is slated to tip off Friday at 7:45 p.m.
“Amite really came out and played with a lot of energy in the first half and pinned us back on our heels,” said St. Thomas head coach John McMillian. “Basically, we tried to correct some of the things we were not doing right at halftime, but mostly I told the girls that the game is not over.”
Seniors Dominique Ginn and Tiffany Foster tossed in 10 points each in the first half to lead the Amite Lady Warriors to a 30-19 halftime advantage over St. Thomas. The Lady Falcons gained some ground in the third period outscoring Amite 14-10, but still trailed 40-33 going into the final period.
The Lady Falcons turned up the full court defensive pressure in the fourth period scoring off of turnovers to cut the Amite lead to 41-38 with 5:40 remaining. The Lady Falcons then tied the game at 41-all with 4:48 left when senior Lynleigh Hughes made a pair of trips to the free throw line going 3-for-4. St. Thomas took the lead at 43-41 with 4:41 left on another pair of free throws by Hughes and then proceeded to build a ten-point advantage at 55-45 with less than two minutes left capped off by a pair of free throws by freshman Shelby Brignac. In all the Lady Falcons went 11-for-14 at the line down the stretch to ice the win.
“We were fortunate to get them in a bit of foul trouble in the second half,” said coach McMillian. “I felt like we didn’t

Senior Beth Hagan led the St. Thomas second-half rally scoring 12 of her 19 points in the final two periods. Sophomore Shelby DiMiceli also came alive in the final two periods tossing in 15 points. The Lady Falcons hit on six, three-pointers and scored 25 points at the free throw line. For Amite, Foster finished with 15 points and Ginn, who was shutout in the second half, finished with 11.
In the other semi-final match-up, the Northshore Lady Panthers turned a two-point (22-20) halftime lead into a 15-point rout in the second half to earn a spot in the finals.
