Lady Cats and Lady Falcons advance to championship with double-digit wins.
Walker cruises over Loranger 60-30 and St. Thomas routs Covington 71-54.

HAMMOND—The Walker Lady Wildcats and the St. Thomas Lady Falcons advanced to the finals of the St. Thomas Invitational Tournament Friday as both teams cruised to double-digit wins and reamined perfect in tournament play at 2-0. Walker rolled over the Lady Wolves 60-30, while St. Thomas made easy work of the Lady Lions winning 71-54.

route to a 60-30 blow-out win. Thee victory improved Walker’s record to 10-3 and 2-0 in the tournament and set up a showdown with tournament host, St. Thomas, in the championship game to be played at 6:00 p.m. today. Loranger, who dropped to 1-1 in tournament action, will play Albany at 4:30 p.m. for second place.
    The Lady Cats opened the game with a 13-1 run and never looked back. The Lady Wolves mounted a rally early in the second period to pull to with 16-10 at the 5:16 mark on a jumper by Baileigh Bankston, but Walker outscored Loranger 10-6 in the final three minutes of the period to reclaim a solid 26-16 halftime margin. Walker sealed the deal in the final period limiting Loranger to a single point while dropping in 20.
    Morgan Melancon was tops for Walker with 17 points followed by Hannah Fohne with nine. Whitney Anthony and Dana Bruno led Loranger with 11 and 10 points respectively.

St. Thomas 71, Covington 54
    Rebehah Greer, Christy Shelby, and Shelby Dimiceli each tossed in 12 points for the Lady Falcons as St. Thomas rolled to a 71-54 win over Covington to advance to the Championship game set for today at 6:00 p.m. The win improved the Lady Falcons’ season mark to 7-5 and 2-0 in the tournament.
    The Lady Falcons opened the contest with the hot shooting hand and a big dose of full court pressure defense taking a 21-9 first period lead over Covington. St. Thomas increased its margin to 20 at 29-9 at the 5:49 mark of the second period on a jumper by Taylor Stanley and finished the half up 39-24. Covington outscored the Lady Falcons in the third period pulling to within 13 points but St. Thomas answered with a 15-11 run in the final period to secure a double-digit margin.
    Jamie Straton and Emily Smith paced the Lady Lions effort with seven and six points respectively. Covington will play Doyle in the consolation game at 3:00 p.m. today.
