HAMMOND—In a night that featured pair of games with very different twists and turns, the 2007 St. Thomas Aquinas Girls Invitational Tournament tipped off with Loranger holding on to defeat Doyle 58-47 and Albany
SURROUNDED!—Loranger’s Chelsey Gerarve (34) and Ashley Knippers (44) surround Doyle’s Chelsea Rogers on a full court press.
rallying to win 60-58 in overtime over Covington. Doyle will continue play tonight against Walker in the early game and St. Thomas will play Albany in the nightcap. Loranger and Covington will be idle.

Loranger 58, Doyle 47
The Loranger Lady Wolves built a 23-point lead at 47-24 at the 3:41 mark of the third period on a lay-up by Ashley Knippers, but a five-minute scoring drought in the final period allowed the Lady Tigers of Doyle to pull within seven at 48-41 on a jumper by junior Jennifer MacDonald. Sophomore Tina Booth and senior Chelsey Gerarve came to the rescue for the Lady Wolves as both scored four points down the stretch to secure the win for Loranger.
Senior Whitney Anthony led the Lady Wolves with 12 points followed by Ashley Knippers with 11. For Doyle Kerri McDonald led all scorers with 16 points. Loranger improved to 5-4, while Doyle dropped to 6-6.

Albany 60, Covington 58 OT
Albany’s Taylor Bankston made a pair of free throw with 13 seconds remaining in regulation to knot the score at 54 and send the game into overtime. The charity stripe points completed a rally by the Lady Hornets, who trailed by 11 points at the half and for much of the final two periods. Bankston would continue her heroics in overtime as she scored all six Albany points to lead her team to victory.
Chelsea Rogers of Albany led all scorers with 22 points, while teammate Julie Patterson tossed in 13. The Lady Hornets cashed in big at the free throw line notching 23-of-33 attempts. For Covington, Dee Dee Burns was tops with 16 and Emily Smith added 14.
