while the Terriers ran away from Reserve Christian 61-43.
“We won this tournament last year and we would certainly like to defend our title,” said Falcon head coach Errol Gauff. “Vandebilt Catholic has outstanding guard play and presents a stiff test for our guys.”
A pair of 4-5A district foes squared off in the opening game Tuesday with the Slidell Tigers coming from 23 points down to win a thriller 69-66 over the Covington Lions. The Tigers trailed 41-18 at the half, but outscored the Lions 51-25 in the second half to get the victory.
“We have only played three games so this group of young men is still learning how to play together,” said Slidell head coach Rick Spring. “The guys did a good job of putting pressure on the ball in the second half and this led to some points off steals that got us back in it.”
Senior Cedric Cooper led the Tiger charge in the second half scoring 17 points. Fellow senior Anthony Anderson added 14 more for the winners. Freshman Jordon Bedford paced the Lion effort with 20.
In the second game, the Albany Hornets matched up against the St. Charles Catholic Comets and stung the Comets in another close game 60-55.
“The guys showed a lot of intensity tonight,” said Albany head coach Anthony Schiro. “This team is mostly young and lacks experience at the varsity level, and we still have a couple of starters from last year working through injuries.”
Junior Jarod Jackson was tops for Albany with 23 points and fellow junior Edvante Showers added 14 more. Freshman Austin Martin led all scorers and the Comets with 24 points
The Terriers of Vandebilt Catholic punched their ticket to the championship game in the third game with a 61-43

thumping of the Reserve Christian Eagles. Standout guard Deshawn Patterson scored ten points in each half to lead the Terriers, while freshman Cedric Jenkins led the Eagles with 15 points.
St. Thomas advanced to the finals in the nightcap game defeating Port Allen 66-49. The Falcons ripped off 12 unanswered points in route to posting a 17-4 first period score. The Pelicans played the Falcons even in the second period with each team scoring 16 points. However, St. Thomas outscored Port Allen 33-29 in the second half to secure the win.
Day three action begins at 3:00 p.m. with St. Charles Catholic battling Covington in one consolation game, while Albany and Slidell will rumble in the second consolation game. The evening slate features a match up between Reserve Christian and Port Allen for third place followed by the championship game between Vandebilt Catholic and St. Thomas.
