LORANGER—Starting fast was the formula for success at the first day of the Parish Tournament as all four first round winners jumped out to solid first period leads then cruised to double-digit wins.
    The Amite Lady Warriors led by 10 after one and defeated the Indy Lady Tigers 74-43. The Loranger Wolves led by 11 after one and defeated the Indy Tigers
SHARP SHOOTER—Loranger’s Lionel Lewis (11) was the top individual point getter of the night scoring 28 points to lead the Wolves to a 60-47 win over Independence.
60-47. The Loranger Lady Wolves led the Sumner Cowgirls by 28 after one and won 79-16, and the Ponchatoula Green Wave held a 25-point margin over the Sumner Cowboys after one and won 86-20.

Lady Warriors 74, Lady Tigers 43
    Amite’s Keeosha Brumfield tossed in seven of her game high 26 points in the first stanza to pace an early 18-8 first period lead over Independence. The Lady Tigers rallied in the second period to pull to within three at 18-15 on a jumper by Kevondia Roberts but could get no closer as Amite scored the next six points and built a 30-18 lead at the half.
    The Lady Warriors added 25 more in the third to take a 60-33 advantage after three and coasted in the final period outscoring Independence 14-10 to secure the win. With the win, Amite advances to play Ponchatoula today at 3:30 p.m.
    Three other Lady Warriors finished in double figures along with Brumfield. Thereva Forman had 14, Anita McKnight added 11 and Brittany Woods had 10 for the winners. Roberts led Independence with 14 and teammate Shyeisha Anderson added eight.

Loranger 60 , Independence 47    
    Senior Lionel Lewis scored 18 first half points to pace 33-18 halftime advantage over the Independence Tigers. Lewis would finish the night with 28 to lead all scorers. The Tigers managed to pull to within 10 (42-32) at the 1:54 mark of the third period on a lay-up by Zach Reed, but could get no closer. Reed finished with 19 points to lead the Tigers.
    Loranger advances to play number one seed Amite at 5:00 p.m. today.

Lady Wolves 79, Cowgirls 16
    The Loranger Lady Wolves made quick work of
GREEN FOR TWO—Ponchatoula’s Joseph Green get an open look at the basket in the Wave’s 86-20 rout of Sumner in the first day of tournament action.
Sumner outscoring the Cowgirls 30-2 in the first period in route to a 79-16 blowout victory. Three Lady Wolves finished in double figures with senior Dana Bruno scoring 13 and sophomore Baileigh Bankston and freshman Kimberly Culbreath each adding 11. Loranger took advantage of 32 shots from the free throw line tossing in 20 tries.
    The Lady Wolves advance to play second seed Hammond at 6:30 p.m. today.

Ponchatoula 86, Sumner 20
    The Ponchatoula Green Wave used six three-pointers and a solid pressure defense to build a 34-9 margin over the Sumner Cowboys after just one period. The Wave would drop in five more bombs to finish the night with 11 three point baskets and the biggest romp of the night. The final score marked Ponchatoula’s biggest lead as sophomore Bryant Hart hit a three-point shot with 21 seconds left to closeout the Green Wave scoring.
    Four players finished in double figures for the Wave including Coty McCaloupe with 17 points, Joseph Green with 13, and Brad Fresina and Matt Derenbecker each with 11. Ponchatoula advances to play Hammond at 8:00 p.m. tonight.
