HAMMOND—Two parish teams scored wins in the annual Joel Tillis Girls’ basketball jamboree hosted by Hammond
GETTING READY TO GO—Coach Tommy Morrison and the Lady Tors get ready to "JAM" against the Amite Warriors.
High on Saturday. Amite defeated Hammond 39-27, while Ponchatoula crushed East St. John 50-22. The event tipped off the 2006-07 season for eight teams.
    In the opening game, Springfield out-scored the Sumner Cowgirls 23-16 in the second half to secure a solid 34-22 win. Jasmine Dudley paced the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points, while Cally Ballard led Sumner with 13.
    Jackie Womack and Slanda George combined for nine and seven points respectively to lead the St. Helena Lady Hawks to a 25-15 win over the Loranger Lady Wolves in the second game. Whitney Anthony led Loranger with seven points.
    Amite and Hammond rumbled in the third contest of the day with the Lady Warriors getting a 39-27 win over the Lady Tors. Tiffany Foster tossed in three, three-pointers and a free throw to lead Amite with 10 points, while Hammond’s Julia Jackson paced the Lady Tors’ effort with nine.
    In the fourth match up, Hahnville and Mandeville were featured with the Lady Tigers scoring a decisive 43-17 win over the Lady Skippers. Chey Hill led the way for

Hahnville with 14 points and Kayla Munseh tossed in five for Mandeville.
    Ponchatoula’s Desiree Dotey scored 14 points to lead the Lady Wave past East St. John 50-22 in the final contest of the day. The Lady Wave jumped out to a 23-8 advantage in the first half and coasted to 28-point romp over the Lady Cats. Hannah Griggs also finished in double figures for the Lady Wave scoring 11, while Travandre Payne finished with a game high 10 points for East St. John.

The Loranger Wolves play host to the Kentwood Roos in 3A vs 1A match-up.

DECEMBER 6-8 ...
The Veritas Challenge

St. Thomas Aquinas Girls’ host. Tangipahoa Parish teams Amite and Loranger along with Ascension Catholic, Covington, Destrehan, Northshore, and St. Joseph’s complete the eight-team tournament.


DECEMBER 20-22 ...
Parish Tournament

Always a special event and hosted by Loranger High School. Come out and watch the local girls and boys teams battle for the title of Parish champs.
