SUMNER—The 2A Lady Raiders of Pine survived a second half rally by the 3A Franklinton Lady Demons to earn a
TOP SCORER—Pine’s Rolanda Bickham score two of her 23 points in the Lady Raiders thrilling 56-55 win over Franklinton Friday night.
56-55 win and advance to the Cowboy Classic championship game against Independence slated for 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The Amite Warriors broke open a close first half game against the Mt. Hermon Yellow Jackets to cruise to an 84-64 win and advance to Saturday’s championship game against rival Independence at 9:00 p.m.
    On the strength of a 24-8 second period romp, the Lady Raiders jumped out to a 32-17 halftime margin over Franklinton, but a solid shooting performance by Brittany Taylor and some pressure defense resulted in a Lady Demon rally that came up just one point short of send the game into overtime. The Lady Demons outscored Pine 38-24 in the second half and down 56-53 made a last second two-point shot that narrowed the final margin to just one point. Taylor scored 15 of her 21 total points in the second half to pace the Franklinton comeback.
    Rolanda Bickham carried the scoring load for Pine racking up 14 points in the first half in route to leading all scorers with a game high 23 points. The Lady Raiders got into late foul trouble as starters Raven Luper and Juane White were sent to the bench with five fouls midway through the final period. A clutch 3-point play by Bickham, who scored a layup and a foul shot, gave the Lady Raiders the lead at 56-53 with less than 30 seconds remaining and Pine hung on for the win.
    In the boys’ game, the Amite Warriors made it two wins in tournament play by taking care of a “pesky” Mt. Hermon team in the second half to earn a decisive 84-64 win and advance to the finals.

second stanza and led by only one (35-34) at the halfway mark. Michael Harvey started slow for the Warriors scoring only nine points in the first two periods, but exploded for 26 points in the second half to lead a 49-30 second half rout. Harvey worked inside and outside scoring four three-pointers.
    Thomas Hart and Ace Misita also finished in double figures for Amite scoring 14 and 11 points respectively. Mt. Hermon’s Ed Norman was tops for the Yellow Jackets with 14 points and teammate Pat Fair added 12 more.
    Saturday’s slate features four games with host Sumner playing in both the girls’ and boys’ consolation games against the Lady Demons and the Yellow Jackets. The two championship games will follow.

St. Thomas Aquinas Girls’ host. Tangipahoa Parish teams Amite and Loranger along with Ascension Catholic, Covington, Destrehan, Northshore, and St. Joseph’s complete the eight-team tournament.

Always a special event and hosted by Loranger High School. Come out and watch the local girls and boys teams battle for the title of Parish champs.
